Interdepartmental Instrumentation Unit

Director:  Dr. Allan Bar-Sinai

Phone: 02-658512502-6585125

The core facility enables researchers and students to use sophisticated life sciences research instrumentation otherwise not available in their departments. It is also a source of information regarding scientific methods and instruments as well as manufacturers and company's agents in Israel.
We train people to use the instruments on their own, supporting and consulting them through the process.

The heavy equipment in the core facility, set up in 1983, is used extensively by all departments, units and students. This facility has sophisticated laboratory instruments, among them ultracentrifuges, radioactive counters, a flow cytometry (FACS) unit and computer-linked optical instruments for measuring physical and biochemical parameters. See Equipment list.

Working Procedures
Users wishing to use this core facility must first register in order to gain access via the biometric entry system. Download the form, fill it out and e-mail it to Dr. Bar-Sinai. You may then come to the facility to finish the registration process.
All equipment and services must be reserved via the on-line reservation system. Instructions are available here. All equipment is available to all students and faculty, after having received proper instruction. Cleaning the instrument and work area after use is essential. Using hazardous samples such as pathogenics or radioactive should be treated with all precautions needed, and should be noted when making reservations (See SAFETY).
Tubes for centrifuges and optical cells should be brought in by the users.

General Safety
Lab coats, safety galsses and gloves are required. Do not touch the door handles with gloves, either when entering, or when leaving the facility. If needed, bring clean gloves and put them on in the facility. Radioactive and pathogenic samples should be brought in sealed tubes or vials.
Balance centrifuge tubes before run and don't lean on instrument while running. Leave centrifuge only after reached desired speed.
Clean up area after use and treat hazardous spill with Bleach.
Do not leave radioactive samples in the facility. Dispose of them in waste room.
